16@Plover is a beautiful set of self-catering studios in Swakopmund.
After relocating to Swakopmund, the owners wanted a new one-bedroom house with 2 adjacent self-catering studios. Although the one studio could be joined via an internal door to the main house for private guests, the owners did not want to compromise on their own privacy when the rooms are rented out to guests. This was overcome by ensuring the main house living areas and bedroom opens up towards the northern side and placing the studios at an angle at the front of the property on the southern side.
The main house consists of an open plan living/kitchen/dining area with an adjacent sculler/laundry leading to the double garage. A guest toilet is discreetly placed around a corner. As both the owners work from home, 2 workspaces were carved out of the main living area, both being part of the open plan whilst also providing a bit of privacy when working.
The main bedroom leads of the living area through a glass door, complete with en-suite bathroom and dressing room.
A long wrap -around verandah runs the entire length of the house on the northern side.
The 2 guest studios have been placed at a right angle to the main house, providing a welcoming arrival courtyard to guests and friends alike. Another wrap- around verandah runs the entire length of the front elevation.
Both studios are en-suite with a small sitting area and kitchenette each.
The colours and materials were kept very simple. The design is light and airy and the buildings are easy to maintain in the harsh coastal weather.
